Abstract:

The earthquakes in Makran and OMAN SEA and the historical Tsunamies such as one that happened on 27 November 1945 in Makran coast are main reasons for insecurity because of Tsunamie's wave affected in the mentioned area. Also the geophysical interpretation supports this fact. Because of various seismic in this region; it is divided into two areas in this reSEArch. The data of earthquakes were used in the current century and historical earthquakes to estimate the Gutenberg–Rishter parameters and the earthquake cycle (recurrence intervals). The distribution of seismic energy released have been drown and analysed. By depth information, slop state of deposit has been analysed and the speed of Tsunami in different places in comparison with different depths of OMAN SEA has been evaluated. Landslide possibility and height of Tsunamie's wave have been compared in different coast of the OMAN SEA.

Abstract:

RELIABLE WAVE INFORMATION IS ESSENTIAL TO THE DESIGN OF ANY COASTAL FACILITY AND TO THE ASSESSMENT OF COASTAL PROCESSES, SUCH AS SEDIMENT TRANSPORT. A DETAILED INVESTIGATION OF THE WAVE CLIMATE ON THE OMAN SEA COASTLINE OF IRAN IS BEING CARRIED OUT IN SUPPORT OF A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF COASTAL ZONE PROCESSES (PROJECT MONITOR SB&B BY PSO). THE OMAN SEA COAST IS SUBJECT TO A COMPLEX WAVE CLIMATE WITH TWO DISTINCT COMPONENTS: (1) SEAS THAT ARE GENERATED IN THE GULF OF OMAN AND APPROACH FROM A WESTERLY TO SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTION; AND (2) LONG-PERIOD SWELLS THAT ARE GENERATED IN THE INDIAN OCEAN AND APPROACH FROM SOUTHERLY TO SOUTHEASTERLY DIRECTIONS. THIS PAPER PRESENTS PRELIMINARY RESULTS BASED ON THE WORK COMPLETED TO DATE.

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION: THE SOUTH COAST OF IRAN BORDERING ON THE OMAN SEA IS SUBJECT TO TROPICAL CYCLONE INFLUENCE ON AN INFREQUENT BASIS; HOWEVER, THESE CYCLONES CAN GENERATE RELATIVELY LARGE SEA STATES. AT MANY LOCATIONS ALONG THIS COASTLINE, PARTICULARLY IN THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE COAST, TROPICAL CYCLONE WAVES ARE THE DOMINANT COASTAL DESIGN WAVE CONDITION AS THE WAVE HEIGHTS CAN EXCEED THOSE GENERATED FROM OTHER METEOROLOGICAL PHENOMENA, SUCH AS THE MONSOON AND LOCAL WESTERLY WINDS. RECENTLY, IN EARLY JUNE 2007, CYCLONE GONU ENTERED THE OMAN SEA AND LARGE WAVES WERE EXPERIENCED ALONG THE IRANIAN COASTLINE. THIS CYCLONE HAD AN UNUSUAL PATH, TRAVELLING MUCH FURTHER WEST AND NORTH THAN THE TYPICAL CYCLONE. SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHTS IN EXCESS OF 4 METERS WERE MEASURED AT CHABAHAR DURING THIS EVENT.

Abstract:

There are several global marine forecast systems based on large scale regional data covering Iranian SEAs which are freely available on their websites. They are also several local marine forecast systems in Iranian waters. This paper performs an inter-comparison among different marine forecasting systems in Iranian SEAs in order to evaluate the accuracy and difference between them and give a proper ground for further investigation and reSEArch in this crucial issue. For this purpose, the results of two forecasting system in several points in the Persian are compared and the reason of differences are investigated.

Abstract:

we conducted this survey to identify SEA cucumber species in Chabahar Bay (OMAN SEA). Four stations were selected according to previous pilot study around the bay between 4 to 12 m depths. SEA cucumber species were counted in 200 m2 with four replications in each station using SCUBA equipment. Species identification using key external characteristics as well as the spicules. Four species including Holothuria leucospilota, H. hilla, H. edulis, Stichopus hermanii, were identified that belong to Holothuroidea and Stichopodidae families. Maximum of density, Shannon-Wiener and Margalef richness index observed in winter and minimum in summer. Evenness Index also indicates equal distribution of SEA cucumbers during SEAsons and regions of the study.

Abstract:

In the present study, the MITgcm model was used to simulate the surface front of the OMAN SEA. The area under study is part of the Strait of Hormuz and the OMAN SEA (22. 5-27. 3° N, 56. 2-61. 7° E). The initial data fed to the model are temperature, salinity, wind, net heat flux, evaporation and precipitation. The model was run for 15 years to reach a stability. Comparison of model outputs with measurement data (measurement data as well as satellite data) shows a good agreement. The results of the model indicate the presence of the Ras al Hadd front on the southern shores of the OMAN SEA, the width and breadth of which changed spatially and temporally, being wider in winter due to northwest wind, and being less wider in summer and autumn. The existence of cyclones with more radius in winter and spring is observable on the OMAN SEA surface. In summer and autumn, with increasing instability, anticyclones on the surface is seen which is in agreement with previous modeling and observation results. The density in the center of these cyclones reaches 1026 kg/m3. The maximum density difference between northern and southern OMAN SEA in winter is calculated as (1-3 kg/m3) and the minimum density difference in autumn as (0. 55 kg/m3). Increasing the horizontal gradient along the front leads to an increase in vertical velocity and baroclinic instability. The depth of the front in winter was to the maximum of 80m, in spring to the minimum of 55m, and in summer and autumn was 60m. The buoyancy frequency was equal to 0. 007 s-1 in winter, 0. 023 s-1 in spring and, 0. 022 s-1 in summer and autumn. And the ratio of the wavelength that has the highest growth to Rossby radius deformation d in winter was equal to 1. 5, in spring 0. 65 and in summer and autumn 0. 61. The calculated value in winter is closer to experimental value.

Abstract:

This study was conducted for identification and introduce of Tintinnida order in Iranian waters of OMAN SEA from Hormuz Strait to Pasabandar, Chabahar, in 2007. Ten transects each with four fixed stations had been chosen. Samplings were conducted in two SEAsons before and after monsoon. Depth of sampled stations in the studied area varied from zero to 20m and 20 to 50m and in station one because of low depth (5m) sampling carried out just one time. We identified a total of 16 genera of Tintinnida from ten families. These composed of 4 genera belonging to family Tintinnidae, 2 genera from family Xystonellidae, Ptychocylidae and Rhabdonellidae. Familes Tintinnidiidae, Codonellidae, Epiplocylididae, Dictyocystidae, Metacylididae and Ascampbeliellidae were each represented by only one genus. Tintinnopsis from Codonellidae was the most abundant composing 54% of the samples and Epiplocyloides from Epiplocylididae with 0.01% was the least abundant. The most frequent genera of Tintinnidae included: Eutintinnus, Amphorellopsis, Salpingella and Dadayiella.

Abstract:

In order to study the nutritional behavior of Saurida tumbil in the OMAN SEA (Sistan & Baluchistan province), a total of 116 specimens were SEAsonally collected, of which 77 specimens were males and 39 specimens were female. The minimum and maximum length of males was respectively 22.8 and 45.5 cm and for females there were 25.5 and 53.4 percent. The results showed that by increasing TL, the weight of stomach will increase too. In this study, the kind of food, some factors such as frequency percentage, Vacuity Index, Gastromatic Index of different food items were calculated. Also, results showed that Saurida tumbil has the Carnivorous diet and feeds on e.g Upeneus sulphureas, Trichiurus lepturus, Nemipterus japonicas, Platycephalus indicus, Leiognathus bindus, Sardinella sp. Tylosurus corcodilu, Sphyraena putnamie, shrimp postlarve, Sepia pharaonis and Uroteuthis duvauceli The measurement of (FP) Index expressed that Upeneus sulphureas and Trichiurus lepturus respectively by (FP) 29.6 and 12.9 percent are the seconds and main foods.Cephalopoda, Crustacea and other species are random hunts. Saurida tumbil doesn’t have any target food and hunts its foods according to the availability of existence nutrition species. Vacuity index was obtained 51.7% and it was recognized by the explanation of (CV) so this aquatic animal has the medium nutrition. The maximum Index of (FI) 93.7 percent occurred in winter and the minimum 36.8% occured in summer.
